Joint related conditions, particularly knee arthritis, affect the quality of life for thousands of underprivileged people across India, especially women. What begins as manageable discomfort gradually leads to immobility, dependence and the quiet loss of dignity. While the condition is treatable, the cost of knee replacement surgery remains prohibitively high for many and schemes like Aarogyasri do not cover it. As a result, countless people are left to suffer in silence, unable to walk, work or live with independence.

At Sarvejana Foundation, we recognise this critical gap in access to care. Through the HappyKnees initiative, we aim to restore mobility and dignity to those who need it most. By offering free knee replacement surgeries to economically backward individuals, we hope to turn pain into possibility and disability into renewed purpose.

Free Knee Replacement Surgeries for the Underpriviledged

HappyKnees is built on the principle of compassion in action. Inspired by the vision of Dr. A.V. Gurava Reddy, the initiative channels decades of surgical experience toward creating meaningful, life-changing outcomes. With every step regained, a new chapter begins, for a mother, a grandmother, for a father, a caregiver or a worker who had once given up hope.

We are committed to building a society where mobility is a right, not a privilege. Our model combines screening camps, community outreach, partnerships with hospitals and a unique pledge-based system:

“One for Mother and One for Other.”

Join us in this mission. Let’s give her that second chance. One step at a time.

Key Programs & Activities

In collaboration with various organisations, medical camps are conducted to effectively screen and determine the wellbeing and health of the people. With medical camps ranging from corporates, communities, health checkups and mobile screenings, we ensure to keep everyone one step ahead of their health problems.

Villages or clusters are selected for health screening and camp-based outreach.

  • Preliminary screening by local authorities
  • Final beneficiary selection and surgery by Dr. AVGR’s team
  • Donor-supported model: sponsors provide cost, food and logistical help

Every donor or participant is encouraged to help “one other mother or patient” as part of the “One for Mother, One for the Other” philosophy.

Sarvejana Foundation has a special mobile X-Ray clinic van that is equipped with an X-Ray machine, a consultation area for screening thousands of patients from slums and rural belts where they do not have access to proper hospital facilities.
